Jim Vollmer was born in New Orleans in 1953. He received his bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University, with a concentration in Interior Design and Stained Glass, in 1979. For more than 25 years, Jim Vollmer has been creating glass works from his studio in Seattle.
The intricate patterns in his pieces are drawn from textiles and tilework of diverse cultures. Incorporated into the panels, in vivid color, are Persian patterns from the Middle East, mosaic motifs from the Mediterranean, Bold graphics from the Kente tradition in Ghana and fanciful designs inspired by the earliest Americans. Although the inspirations for these works may be borrowed, Jim Vollmer's technique is entirely his own.

Exhibitions include the local Bellevue Art Museum show, where he has won several awards of excellence, Baltimore ACC, Smithsonian and Philadelphia Museum, and a purchase award at the American Craft Exhibitors, in Evanston,IL.
