Artist’s love to vacation in the most beautiful locations and travelers love to collect paintings that are souvenirs of beautiful places and cherished memories. Many of Cincinnati’s “Golden Age” (1830-1900) artists summered in places where the subject matter, color and light were exceptional. Frank Duveneck, Dixie Selden, John E. Weis, L.H. Meakin, John Rettig, William Horton, Herman and Bessie Wessel, Paul Ashbrook and Charles S. Kaelin all followed the light to interesting places. The Eisele Gallery has paintings from those glorious “Summers Past” on display and available at affordable prices. That tradition lives on with the practice of contemporary artists painting “En Plein Air”, Ray Hassard, Mary Beth Karaus, Mark Gingerich, Gail Morrison, Keith Klein, Daryl Urig and Chris Griffin-Woods have been capturing the excitement and beauty of Cincinnati, the United States and Europe while they vacationed this summer.
