GALLERY LECTURE - September 22 - Paul Sawyier, Kentucky's Most Celebrated Artist
The Eisele Gallery will host a presentation by Bill Coffee on the life of "Paul Sawyier, Kentucky's Most Celebrated Artist" on Saturday Sept. 22, 2012 beginning 10:30 AM - 12:00 noon.
Mr. Coffee will discuss Paul Sawyier's artistic training, his life and his paintings. Sawyier studied with Frank Duveneck and William Merritt Chase. Chase considered Sawyier to be very talented and advised him to "Be yourself, be your Individual Self, be Paul Sawyier." Paul Sawyier's paintings were included in the 1893 Chicago World's Fair Colombian Exhibition in the State of Kentucky display. It was at this exhibition that Impressionism was formally introduced in the United States. Paul Sawyier became one of the first proponents of Impressionism in Kentucky. This lively and informal presentation will appeal to both the novice and the seasoned art collector. Several original Paul Sawyier paintings will be available during this lecture.
Bill Coffee has viewed over 1,000 Paul Sawyier originals and finds ten to twenty previously undiscovered works by Paul Sawyier each year. Mr. Coffee is considered Kentucky's leading authority on Paul Sawyier, his life and his work. Refreshments will be served.
